If chomping noises and happy grizzles are common sounds in your kitchen, you and your little one are
probably already experiencing the joys of solid foods! This week, we'll inspire you with new recipe
ideas and explain how to introduce a beaker...
You and your baby
Month 7 news
Your little one is getting more and more independent by the day - they might even be sitting up
unsupported! Little fists and fingers are also getting stronger, as baby's grip starts to develop to
holding things in the palm and even passing them between hands.
The Expert View
Even if you've been feeding your little one from a bottle, introducing a beaker is
a whole new challenge! Replace your baby's bottle with a lidded beaker at one
mealtime per day to get them started. Try not to start this when your little one
is tired, and remember to keep bottles out of sight so baby doesn't get
distracted. Most health professionals recommend that you cut out all bottles by
the time your baby is 12 months old, so don't worry if your little one is
resisting the cup for now - there's plenty of time.
Tips for you
Tip:
Troublesome teeth
Teething can be distressing for babies and may result in a few sleepless nights
for you both. To ease the discomfort, give your baby cooked carrot sticks or
cooled cucumber to nibble on. Just remember to keep a close eye on them as they
do!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The best way to feed a baby is to breastfeed, as breast milk
provides the ideal balanced diet and protection against illness for your baby and also many
non-nutritional benefits for both baby and mother. We recommend that you speak to your
healthcare professional when deciding on your choice of feeding your baby. Professional
guidance should also be sought on the preparation for and maintenance of breastfeeding. If you
do choose to breastfeed, it's important to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Infant formula is
intended to replace breast milk when mothers choose not to breastfeed or if for some reason
they are unable to do so. A decision not to breastfeed, or to introduce partial
bottle-feeding, will reduce the supply of breast milk. If for any reason you choose not to
breastfeed, do remember that such a decision can be difficult to reverse. Using infant formula
also has social and financial implications which must be considered. Infant formula should
always be prepared, used and stored as instructed on the label, in order to avoid risks to a
baby's health. SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk and SMA®
Organic Follow-on Milk are for babies over 6 months, as part of a varied weaning diet.
Not intended to replace breastfeeding. The decision to start weaning or to use these products
before 6 months, should be made only on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor,
public health nurse, dietitian or pharmacist, based on baby's individual needs.
