What's happening to your baby?
Have you found yourself talking to your baby? That’s good. Your baby can hear your voice and will become familiar with it and enjoy listening to you.
Your baby’s head is more in proportion now – about half the size of its body – and the neck is well defined. Well-developed sucking muscles have made your baby’s cheeks look fuller and the scalp is covered in peach-fuzz hair known as lanugo.
The lungs are developing fast and your baby inhales and exhales amniotic fluid which helps the air sacs develop. Your baby’s spleen is working, removing old red blood cells from the blood and producing antibodies to fight infections.
Your baby’s arms and legs are well grown, and your baby’s movements are less jerky. |

What's happening to you?
This is the stage of pregnancy when lots of women start to "bloom". That's because your heart is pumping more blood around your body these days. This supports your pregnancy and can bring welcome side effects like radiant skin and thick hair.
If you haven't been exercising you may want to think about starting. Staying active in pregnancy provides more oxygen for your growing baby, stops you putting on too much weight and also helps you prepare for the hard work of labour. Make sure you drink plenty of water, squash, juice and herbal teas, particularly when you exercise.
Your increased blood flow places more demands on your body's iron stores, so make sure you're getting plenty of iron too. Good sources include lean red meat, dark green vegetables like broccoli and wholemeal bread. |

"It’s recommended that you drink about six glasses of water a day. When you’re pregnant your blood volume increases to supply oxygen to your growing baby. Also, many women suffer constipation and piles during pregnancy. Drinking water and taking some gentle exercise can help, along with having some high fibre foods."

Having a blocked, stuffy nose is quite common during pregnancy. A warm shower or bath can help, as does steaming your face over a steaming bowl. |
