Week 1

Dear [*data('91.salutation')|html*]

Find out more about pregnancy.
Has your baby arrived yet?

If your little bundle is already here, congratulations! We hope you’re all doing well. If you’re still waiting, use this time to rest, relax and get ready for your baby’s arrival. There’s so much to learn as a new parent. You will probably feel all fingers and thumbs as you try to dress your tiny newborn and change their nappy. You may be amazed by how often your baby feeds – and how little they sleep at night! Hang on in there – you’ll soon be feeling more confident.

In the meantime, you can read up on lots of tips and advice on our website where you’ll find help on everything from bonding with your baby to dealing with poo.
Why breastfeed?

Experts agree that breastfeeding gives your baby the best possible start in life. Breast milk contains all the nutrients your newborn baby needs, plus antibodies to protect them from infections.

Breastfeeding has benefits for you too. It burns up to 500 extra calories each day and so may help you lose your pregnancy weight. It also lowers your risk of getting some kinds of cancer.

Plus, of course, breast milk is sterile, comes at just the right temperature and it’s ready to use – no need to sterilise any bottles!
We answer hundreds of questions a week from parents. For free support and advice, get in touch via our new Live Chat service, call or email.

Important Notice: Breast milk is best for babies and breastfeeding should continue for as long as possible. Good maternal nutrition is important for the preparation and maintenance of breastfeeding. Introducing partial bottle-feeding may have a negative effect on breastfeeding and reversing a decision not to breastfeed is difficult. You should always seek the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian or pharmacist on the need for and proper method of use of infant milks and on all matters of infant feeding. Social and financial implications should be considered when selecting a method of infant feeding. Infant milk should always be prepared and used as directed. Inappropriate foods or feeding methods, or improper use of infant formula, may present a health hazard.
All the best,
The SMA Baby Club
