Dear [*data('91.salutation')|html*]
Just a month on from their first birthday and things are getting lively.
Your toddler’s rapidly developing body and brain gives them the confidence to take on bigger challenges day-by-day. With results ranging from cute smiles and chatter to chaotic crawling, climbing, and careering round the house, toddlerhood can be exhausting and exhilarating for you and your little one alike.
For more information on month 13, have a look at our interactive timeline.

Coordination and chaos: opposites attract!
Every day you’ve been marvelling at your child’s determination to master new skills. But the truth is, they’re even more amazing than you think.
Whether they’re crawling or taking those first tentative steps, your 13 month-old toddler is also developing their fine motor skills. These simple movements like using just their finger and thumb to pick things up or make marks with a crayon, need a lot of hand, eye and brain coordination. And as their coordination improves, things can get a little messy!
Blocks are stacked only to be knocked down, some peas are carefully picked up and eaten while others are scattered about with relish, and crayons create masterpieces on anything from a fresh sheet of paper to a freshly scrubbed floor! So if you haven’t already, find out how you can toddler-proof your home with our
helpsheet.

A view from below: how your toddler sees the world
Now your little one’s eyesight is almost as good as an adult’s, they’ll feel more confident and curious to try new things.
Your toddler is fast becoming an expert at recognising faces. Their visual memory is now developed enough so they can often remember where they last saw something.
You can keep their eyes healthy with foods that provide Vitamin A like whole milk, dairy foods and oily fish. It is important to include oily fish, such as salmon and mackerel, as these are particularly high in long chain omega-3 fatty acids.
But remember that although it’s important to try and give your toddler a varied, healthy diet, it takes time for their taste buds to get used to all the wonderful new flavours. Click below to learn more about toddler nutrition...

Walking, talking, picking up, throwing, and your toddler still has time (and energy) to grow more teeth! You may be seeing their molars, the bigger teeth towards the back of their mouth, sprouting up over the next few weeks. Try cooling a teething ring in the fridge. With teething rings, the different textures can help distract your toddler. |

We look at some brilliantly handy hand-food tips and some handy hand hints too for you both to grasp with both hands. |
