You and your baby
Month 16 news
Well hello there, little chatterbox! Your little one has probably mastered a few words and as a result won't stop saying them. If your toddler isn't quite there yet, don't worry. They'll pick up language soon enough and then you won't be able to stop them gabbling!
The Expert View
Protein is so important for your little one, but did you know it's quite easy for toddlers to get more than they need for growth and development? In fact, the average 1-3 year old is getting too much protein – and there is some evidence to suggest that an excess in early life can lead to being overweight later on. Mince, eggs and baked beans are good sources of healthy protein.
Toddler portions can be confusing – and it can be hard to keep up with what's in your little one's bowl and what's on the floor! To make it easier, we've created our portion guide. It covers all the major food groups and gives the ideal amounts in actual meals.
If your toddler is a vegetarian, beans, lentils and dried fruit are good sources of iron. Give them to your little one along with a beaker of orange juice – the vitamin C will help them absorb more iron.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The best way to feed a baby is to breastfeed, as breast milk provides the ideal balanced diet and protection against illness for your baby and also many non-nutritional benefits for both baby and mother. We recommend that you speak to your healthcare professional when deciding on your choice of feeding your baby. Professional guidance should also be sought on the preparation for and maintenance of breastfeeding. If you do choose to breastfeed, it's important to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Infant formula is intended to replace breast milk when mothers choose not to breastfeed or if for some reason they are unable to do so. A decision not to breastfeed, or to introduce partial bottle-feeding, will reduce the supply of breast milk. If for any reason you choose not to breastfeed, do remember that such a decision can be difficult to reverse. Using infant formula also has social and financial implications which must be considered. Infant formula should always be prepared, used and stored as instructed on the label, in order to avoid risks to a baby's health. SMA® PRO Toddler Milk and SMA® PRO Growing Up Milk are suitable for young children from 1-3 years, as part of a healthy balanced diet and these are not a breast milk substitute. SMA® Organic Growing Up Milk is suitable for young children from the 12th month, as part of a healthy balanced diet and it is not a breast milk substitute.
